HELP Congo: A Pioneering Sanctuary Committed to Saving Chimpanzees
A groundbreaking force in chimpanzee reintroduction
HELP Congo isn’t just a sanctuary; it’s a story of courage, hope, and groundbreaking achievements. Founded in 1990 by Aliette Jamart, HELP Congo has rescued over 100 orphaned chimpanzees, victims of poaching and illegal wildlife trade. In 1996, HELP Congo became the first sanctuary in the world to successfully reintroduce captive chimpanzees back into the wild. More than 50 chimpanzees were released into the dense forests of Conkouati-Douli National Park, and today, many of them still thrive in their natural habitat. With the birth of new generations like Luna, born to Lucie, one of the first released chimps, the legacy of these reintroduced families continues to inspire and amaze us all.
Today’s mission: Protect, care, and give a second chance to the most vulnerable
At HELP Congo, our mission goes beyond reintroduction. Every day, we are driven by a deep passion to protect, care for, and provide a second chance to the orphaned chimpanzees of Congo. Our sanctuary is a safe haven where injured and traumatized chimps could heal, surrounded by dedicated caretakers and veterinarians. We provide them with specialized medical care, a balanced diet, and the companionship of other chimps, which helped them to recover from their trauma and allowed them to become magnificent adult chimps.
Our efforts don’t stop at the sanctuary's gates
HELP Congo's ongoing work extends to safeguarding the rich biodiversity of Conkouati-Douli National Park. With the help of dedicated trackers and advanced camera traps, our team monitors and study not only the chimpanzees but also elephants, gorillas, mandrills and other wildlife that thrive in the protected area of the park.
Support for those who cannot return to the wild—Your help matters!
Sadly, some chimpanzees are too traumatized, accustomed to captivity or have physical disabilities that make it impossible for them to return to the wild. These chimps will continue to live on our protected islands, where they receive daily care and attention. Your support is critical to provide them with the food and medical care they need to lead a life as close as possible to what they would have in the wild. By donating, you help us continue to feed and care for these incredible animals, making a tangible impact on their lives.
The impact of Beauval Nature’s investment: A boost for conservation
In 2021, the association Beauval Nature provided significant support to HELP Congo, funding key conservation projects that have bolstered our ability to protect these incredible creatures and their habitat. This investment has been vital in enhancing our research efforts for potential future reintroductions and strengthening our conservation strategies with communities: awareness workshops with schools, coast cleaning project (“Opération 3P”), economic development.
Join us in this mission of hope and conservation!
Your contribution can make all the difference. By donating, you help ensure the survival of these remarkable chimpanzees and support our research and conservation efforts to protect their natural habitat. Together, we can write the next chapter in this story of resilience and renewal.
Donate now to support chimpanzee care and conservation!🙏
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Each donation brings us closer to securing a better future for these amazing animals. 🙏
