Every Life Matters: Give Orphan Chimps a Second Chance at Life

For the past twenty years, JACK Primate Sanctuary has operated on the belief that every life matters. What began with one chimpanzee rescue in 2006 has grown into over 70 critical rescue missions, the elimination of chimpanzee trafficking within the second-largest city in the DRC, and the rescue of hundreds of primates.

But behind every number is an individual life, each and every one with a story steeped in trauma and sorrow. Each rescue is a survivor of wildlife trafficking, stolen from the wild after witnessing their mother's death, then sold, often at the price of their physical health and mental well-being. By the time orphans like Petro, our most recent rescue, arrive at the sanctuary's gates, they are plagued with illness, parasites, injuries, and deep emotional wounds.

Yet, somehow, they remain remarkably resilient. With specialized veterinary care, a dedicated care team, and individualized care plans, orphans like Petro get a second chance at life.

Today, we provide long-term care for 51 chimpanzees. With more undoubtedly on the way.

This year, our goal is to raise $14,000 to help cover the cost of caring for baby chimpanzees from the moment of rescue to the day of their release.
