Thanks to our Wildlife Rescue Hotline that has now spread across Laos, we are getting more and more tip offs about animals in need of our help.
When gibbons are hunted, the babies are taken to their mother to be sold as pets in the illegal wildlife trade. Fortunately some of these babies have been intercepted by the authorities after we reported the information. Like Konkham (Golden Rock), the gibbon in the picture who we rescued in september this year ! The species is not yet known, we need to wait for its fur to change in order to identify the color and shape of its cheek patches. However, based on the location where it was confiscated, we believe it may be a Yellow-cheeked Crested Gibbon (IUCN – Endangered).
But we need more enclosures! The enclosures we hope to make will help to rehabilitate the gibbons so we have a better chance of returning them to the wild.
Help us raise awareness about the plight of gibbons in Laos and gain support for our gibbon rehabilitation program!
