Thank you so much for your amazing support! The 2018 Giving Day for Apes event has now ended. Thanks to you and your kindness, we won the award for most unique donors overall and most dollars raised by any sanctuary in Asia. We urgently need to raise $20,000 to plant 20,000 trees and replenish an area of rainforest that was destroyed in forest fires.

On Tuesday 25th September we will be celebrating Giving Day for Apes – and this provides us with a unique opportunity to raise these vital funds.

The fires of 2015 were an environmental disaster. Five million acres of Indonesian forest were lost and countless orangutans were left to starve and die. Our team worked non-stop, fighting fires, rescuing orangutans and protecting precious areas of forest. But the fight isn’t over, three years on we are still dealing with the devastating impact it had and working to reforest the most important areas.

In recent months, forest fires have once again been raging through Borneo, destroying habitat, endangering wildlife and posing a threat to the health of millions of people. At a time when so much of the Indonesian rainforest is being destroyed, it is more important than ever to focus our efforts on reforesting areas lost and protecting the areas still standing.

A community forest called Pematang Gadung which is located close to our orangutan rescue centre was severely affected by the fires in 2015. This forest is home to  a large population of wild orangutans in West Kalimantan and is an incredibly important ecosystem for the wildlife and local communities in the area.

We knew we had to do something to reforest and protect this precious area, and thanks to your support of our previous 10,000 trees campaign in 2016, we were able to start a reforestation project in Pematang Gadung.

Since the start of the project,  we have been working with the local community to develop a programme which will restore the burnt areas, build a sustainable development programme for the people living in the area, and teach them how to protect the forest.

Thanks to our efforts, this precious community forest did not suffer in the most recent fires. This is a direct result of the hard work we have put into reforesting and protecting this area over the past two years.

The project has already been hugely successful but there are still large areas in need of being reforested. If we could raise $20,000 this Giving Day for Apes, we could plant a further 20,000 trees. This would reforest an area of nearly 100 acres and make a huge difference to the wildlife living in this area.

Please donate $10 today to plant ten trees!

Reforesting this area will not only sustain orangutans and other wildlife, it will also benefit the local people who rely heavily on this forest.

Please help today, your donation will truly make a difference.*

There are still large areas of forest in need of reforestation.  With your support, we could plant nearly 100 acres of trees.

Thank you so much for your support – together, we can achieve something amazing!

*The costs are specified in US dollars but the website takes donations from all around the world.
