Project Primate is a US nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to the protection and preservation of chimpanzees, mainly by helping the rehabilitation of orphaned chimpanzees taken from the wild and by educating local people.

We support two sanctuaries in West Africa,  the Chimpanzee Conservation Center in Guinea and Akatia in Cote d'Ivoire, that are working to protect the western chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes verus).

OUR MISSION

  • maintain the viability of the wild chimpanzee population by ensuring the long-term protection of their natural environment,
  • nurture and care for orphaned chimpanzees that arrive at the center, investing in their rehabilitation, and
  • educate the public about conservation at both the local and national levels.

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MEANS

  • Safety for our orphans - new enclosures and maintenance on existing enclosures is vital to keeping our chimps safe
  • Healthy diet - we need to ensure the chimps are getting a nutritious diet and everything is purchased from local communities
  • Conservation and education - it takes constant diligence to protect their natural habitat and educate the community on the importance of preserving biodiversity
