Located in the Hill Country of South Texas, PPI is the oldest primate sanctuary in North America.  Dedicated to creating a better future for over 300 animals, this Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) accredited sanctuary is actively accepting new residents, including new chimpanzee residents.

In April of 2025, PPI's newest residents moved in. Herbie, Jackson, Emma, and Calamity Jane (CJ) moved to Texas from Oregon, ready to settle into their new home. Herbie and his friends explored their new home, interacted with their new chimpanzee neighbors, and met their new human caretakers.

There was only one thing left to do-- build an amazing new chimpanzee housing array!

This new habitat will benefit all 31 chimpanzees residing at PPI.

Herbie and his friends will thrive in their new home, but benefits will be felt sanctuary wide. This additional housing array will provide space for other chimpanzee residents to use when their homes need repair, when a resident needs to be isolated for veterinary care, or even just as a change of scenery.

Also, as a sanctuary still accepting new chimp residents, this will provide additional housing for any chimpanzees that need PPI in the future.

Today, we are asking for your help to finish the construction of this beautiful habitat.

With your help, we can make this chimpanzee house a chimpanzee home! Continuously working to improve the lives of the chimpanzees that reside at PPI, this project is a vital step in the advancement of animal care.
